Your 2012 Pledge Have you made your 2012 pledge of financial commitment to the church? Estimate of Giving Cards may be obtained from the Ask Me Information Desk in the Narthex or from the church office. The generous support of every member and friend is needed in order for the church to meet its mission and ministry goals this year. As of February 1st, 212 pledges have been received for a total of $371,936.00. Contribution Statements Contribution statements for 2011 are available for pick up in the Narthex. They are filed alphabetically. Save the church postage; pick yours up today! Drivers Needed We have had a few requests for rides to Sunday worship services. Currently, we have two requests from the Floral City area and one from the Hernando area. If you would consider driving someone to church on Sunday for the 11:00 a.m. service, please contact Denise Lay or the church office for information.
Stewardship Message As we grow older, we have more appreciation for life itself. What a gift we have been given. It is a joy to be living and giving back to others, sharing our gifts of love and concern for them in Christ’s name, I love the song that we learned in Sunday School, “We Give Thee but Thine Own” “We give Thee but Thine own, What - e’er the gift may be; All that we have is Thine alone, A trust, O Lord, from Thee.” If you have not already done it, be sure to pick up your weekly Offering Envelopes and last year’s record of your offerings, found next to the “Ask Me Info” desk. Let us all help our church grow and minister more effectively this year. Our Per Capita Requirement The annual Per Capita apportionment, used to satisfy certain expenses mandated in the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church, for the General Assembly, Synod, and local Presbytery, has been established at $19.75 for each member for 2012. Although the Per Capita is benchmarked at $19.75, we would ask that you consider a contribution of $20.00, which would help defray any deficiency we might be faced with. The first envelope in your contribution packet for 2012 is the blue Per Capita envelope. Please use it for your Per Capita contribution. Please keep in mind that the $20.00 contribution is for each church member in your family, even though there is only one blue envelope in each family’s box. We need your help in defraying this expense. Can we count on you? Worship Committee Seeking Volunteers The Worship Committee is desperately seeking volunteers for all services. We need volunteers to run the sound board and/or computer at each worship service. This task enables music and scripture on the overhead. Denise Lay and Sarah Fiske are available to train any volunteers. This would not be a weekly commitment. We are attempting to arrange a group of people to assist when available. We currently have a dedicated group: Keith Spong, Ray and Lacey Birstler, Tom Zurawski, and Roger White who have been faithful in their time, but we are in need of more individuals. Please see Denise Lay, Sarah Fiske, or Debbie O’Leary if interested. We pray that God puts in your heart to help. Thank you for helping to enhance our services. Church Movie Night Save the date! The next movie night is Friday, February 10th, at 6:30 p.m. The movie that will be shown is “A Man Called Peter.” There will be free hotdogs, popcorn, and a beverage. Bring your friends and neighbors! Such a good time was had by all at our last movie night. Let’s talk this up and make it bigger and better attended! The 11th on the 11th Saturday, February 11th, is the date for our 11th all-church outing at the Mattoxes’. It’s a hayride, bovine encounter, potluck supper, and s’mores by the campfire. The address is 10781 E. Nottingham Drive, Inverness (only 2 left turns from the church). Written directions are available. Time is around 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Praise Kids are coming the next weekend, so we’ll get the cows warmed up for their invasion. Call Frank or Audrey Mattox, 341-2484, for more information, directions, and to reserve your spot on the hay wagon. Bullet is expecting you and those marshmallows! It’ll be the luck of the pot! Praise Kids Hayride at Mr. Frank’s Let’s go on a hayride at the Mattoxes’ on Sunday, February 19th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. If you need a ride, please meet at the church at 12:30 p.m. Join us for a hayride, bonfire, s’mores, and lots of fun! See Denise Lay or Sarah Fiske for more information or you may email: sarahfpcinyouth@gmail.com. Ash Wednesday Services Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd. We will celebrate this occasion with two worship services that day: breakfast at 9:00 a.m. with a Holy Communion service at 9:30 a.m., and dinner at 6:00 p.m. with a Holy Communion service at 6:45 p.m. that evening Raise the Roof = 5 Loads Were you there? Our third annual “Raise the Roof” concert last Sunday was an outstanding success. The music was amazing and so well received. Many thanks to Karen Medrano, the Chancel Choir, and the church staff for pulling all this together. The love offering for Habitat For Humanity was $3,411, enough for five sets of washers and dryers. What a testimony to the spirit of mission in our community. Phone Audrey Mattox, church Mission Committee, 341-2484, for more information on our 2012 laundry list. To God be the glory! Church Softball Anyone that is interested in playing slow pitch softball, please call Frank Mattox, 344-2484. We will have a co-ed team and a men’s team if we have enough interested. We will play on Saturdays, and you must be 14 years or older. The softball teams are open to anyone. Results of Church Golf Scramble It was a beautiful day for golf and fellowship at Inverness Golf and Country Club. After a prayer, we were off to a day of fun and frustration, but in the end it was a great day. We had two teams that were tied for first place. The team of Carmine Urgola, Gene Businski, Brad Chappell, and Bob Lumley was tied with the team of John Guyer, Marvin Manes, Jerry Cooly, and Don Royder. We were all winners because God blessed us with good friends, being able to play, and good weather. Special thanks to all who played. Rehearsals for “The Shepherd King” Do you have an interest in acting? Do you see yourself in a supporting role? Come join the PresbyPlayers Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin for the upcoming play “The Shepherd King,” to be presented on March 14th. The play is based on the story of Old King David as he reminisces about when he was a boy, tending his father’s sheep. He never dreamed he would be King one day. He says: “You never know what might happen when you let the Lord lead you!” This is an action packed play with fighting and giants and murder plots and lessons about obeying God. For information, contact Denise Lay, Darexa Cosnett, or join us for rehearsals. Another Opportunity to Serve God and Our Community Each month our church offers a Communion Worship service to the residents of Citrus Health and Rehab on the first Sunday of the month at 2:30 p.m. The service lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and includes music, scripture, a short message and communion. This is a special time to reach out to others. Volunteers are always appreciated who may help by reading scripture, helping with music, or by offering their caring presence to the residents. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Denise Lay or Helen Batten. Deacons’ Bereavement Committee Needs Bakers The Bereavement Committee exists to provide an important and loving service for our church members who have passed away. Our committee provides a reception, including light refreshments, in the Fellowship Hall after a funeral or memorial service. This gives family and friends a place to gather to honor their loved one. This is considered a love gift. If you would like to participate in this service by baking finger foods -- cookies, brownies, bars, muffins -- please sign up. We need to update our “bakers list” for 2012. Call Joan Fritzeen, at 637-5518, or John Burgess, at 726-4697, or sign up on the sheet on the Deacon Bulletin Board under Bereavement Committee. This is a much appreciated labor of love! As you are aware, we are always looking for new members for our church family. What better way than to bring someone you know to the service you attend and introduce them to your church home. During the coffee hour they could meet with other members and guests. They also could tour the church to see our beautiful facilities. Friends with children are welcome. The children could join others and learn from our great Christian Ed teachers. We look forward to seeing many guests on Sunday, February 26th. Thursday Night News The Thursday night Bible Study group is now meeting at our church Library Conference Room. Time is 7:00 p.m. until 8:30. Our study is from the Serendipity Bible so it’s easy to plug in anytime. Come and see what’s special about Thursdays! You’ll be blessed. For more information, please contact Denise Lay. Woman’s Bible Study Woman’s Bible Study meets on Sunday mornings in the Prayer Parlor. We are currently using the book Power Thoughts written by Joyce Meyer. This is an exciting study that is helping us use God’s Word to “renew our minds” with Christ’s thoughts. Anyone 18 or older is invited to join the class. Come and see what you’ve been missing! Open Door Bible Study “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20) Open Door Bible Study meets on Sunday evenings at 5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. We are made up of a cross-section of our church family who love God’s Word and gain personal strength from it, facing the daily challenges in our lives and the lives of our families and friends. New members are always welcome. So bring your Bible and come join us! The Fellowship schedule for February is as follows: Tonight - Class Only February 12th - Finger Foods February 19th - Out to Eat February 26th - Potluck SERMON NOTES February 5, 2012 “Teamwork” “So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.” Nehemiah 4:6 In whatever area of life, if we are going to be successful, we must learn to cooperate. When we think of cooperation within the Christian community, several things come to mind. 1. Life reaches a level of worth when we give something of ourselves to other people. 2. When people cooperate with one another, their combined effort is often greater than their individual endeavors could produce. 3. Cooperation gives us a sense of well-being that is impossible when we are concerned with our own self. Paul said, “Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others” (1 Corinthians 10:24). What can that mean but that we are to cooperate with one another for mutual advantage? What can that mean but that we are to live for others in the light of the example that the Lord Jesus himself has given us? If that’s what we ought to do, then let’s get on with it!!
