One of the functions of the Christian church is its mission program. At First Presbyterian Church of Invemess, the Mission Committee is the prime mover to ensure that we have used our resources to help as many people as we can with as many resources as feasible. Our decisions are approved by the Session annually when they adopt the budget for the coming year.
The money used for mission projects is derived from two sources: approximately 10% of the church operating budget and restricted accounts that are designated for specific benevolences.
The annual mission budget supports two mission accounts: Mission Benevolences and Local Missions. Mission Benevolences are used to support missionary families around the world. In 2017 we are planning support for two missionary partners in South Sudan, a third for the worldwide program for Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship, and possibly a fourth in support of missionary work in Madagascar. Local missions are numerous and include Citrus United Basket, Family Resource Center, Beth El Farm Worker Mission, Cedar Kirk Family Retreat, Path Homeless Shelter, Citrus Abuse Shelter Assn.
(CASA), and Salvation Army Christmas Bell campaign.
The unbudgeted individually supported mission projects are Citrus County Meals on Wheels, Habitat or Humanity washer and dryer fund, Disaster Relief, Helping Hand Fund, Smile Train, 3 cents—a-meal, Gideons, One Great Hour of Sharing, Christmas Joy, and Operation Christmas Child. These restricted accounts rely on donations from our church members as well as visitors.
