Are You Chancel Choir Material?
Do you sing in the shower. . .with the radio in the car or other recordings. . .while doing housework or gardening? If so, you may be a candidate for Chancel Choir. If you can follow along with unfamiliar hymns in church and/or with new songs on the radio, chances are you have a pretty good "ear", which means you learn by listening. This is something we all do without even realizing it. People have told me they can't read music and I say, "That's what rehearsals are for." In rehearsals, we usually spend several weeks going over the music, section by section, spending time on any challenging or more difficult parts. We also work on vocal production and diction, to better convey the text and feeling of the music. Each voice part (soprano, alto, tenor & bass), along with the accompaniment, works like an ingredient in cooking; separate, and even contrasting, yet balanced and blended for a harmonious result. But first and foremost, we remember why we sing - to glorify God and use His gifts of music to uplift, inspire, comfort, and to give us a little taste of His kingdom on earth. He's the One who puts the song in our hearts - why not share that song with others? See you at 7:00 on Thursday evenings! In joy, Karen Medrano, Director of Music 637-2377 kmedrano@aol.com
